Day 43: Blast from the Past

Have you ever thought of what it would be like to go back into the past?

I just saw Hot Tub Time Machine, and not only was it hilarious, it got me thinking....

What if I could go back in time anc change things?

I sometimes wish I could. I would do so many things differently.

First I would have never quit dancing. I also would have started Venice High School my freshman year. I would have tried alot harder in school. I would have been more spontaneous. I would have helped my parents out more. I would have dressed up everyday of my life. I would try new things without hesitation. I wouldn't have gotten braces. I would have changed some things about some relationships I had, and much more.

What would you do if you could go back?

Day 42: March Madness

People go nuts over this stuff!

I don't quite understand it myself, but I should start considering I'm going into sports journalism.

I like basketball but I don't think I love it enough to watch it all the time.

So who is everyone rooting for?

Day 41: Celebrity Gossip

What is it that makes Brangelina fans go crazy?

What about the fact that millions of people will mourn the day of Micheal Jackson's death for the rest of their lives?

It's weird how so many people worry about celebrities live more then their own. I mean I'm one for gossip, but some people go nuts!

I here little girls freak out because they just found out Miley Cyrus is older than them! or that one of the Jonas Brothers is now married.

These poor little girls going nuts over someone and then it breaks there heart.

When are people going to start taking care of themselves instead of worrying about them?

Obviously it is a source of entertainment, but who cares is Brad cheated on Jennifer....do you care that the guy you never talk to down the street is cheating on his wife?

I honestly think Hollywood has separated the world. I feel like celebrities have a totally different way of living then us. They eat differently, dress differently, and even have babies differently (Tom Cruise). But then again some people could say they are the same as everyone else....because in the end they have feelings too :]

What is some good celebrity gossip you have heard recently?

Day 40: Let's Talk About Sex

No not female or male. The actually act.

I don't feel like sex is talked about enough in our everyday lives. I was lucky to have a mom who was open enough to talk to me about sex and the effects of it.

I feel like I am more aware of what goes on and what happens after being able to openly talk about it with my mom. I am well educated about the act and have a full understanding of what goes on.

Some teens now a days don't understand the dangers of sex sometimes. It is known that 1 out of every 4 college students have an STD. I got to a school with 65,000 people. So that is A LOT of people to have STDs.

The first thing that usually comes to mind with teens when having sex is "I don't want to get pregnant", but I think the whole STD thing is in the back of your mind. Birth control isn't going to help out with that. That is why I think you should ALWAYS use a condom unless you know who the person has been with or if you get tested. I think everyone should also be tested no matter what, it is a good thing to do.

I think you should think before you do anything drastic, and always be careful.

Day 39: Addictions

You know some people have addictions.

Alot of people seem to think mine is Facebook. Well it kind of is, I am ALWAYS on it. But I also have plenty other addictions.

For example:

1) I'm addicted to Diet coke, I have drank it all my life and trust me you can't take it away from me
2) I'm addicted to making lists, it helps me stay organized and know what have to get done. If you came into my room right now you would see like 3 or four lists on my desk
3) I'm addicted to being on time. I hate being late because it throws me way off balance. I have a calander sitting at my desk and I have a day timer in my purse that helps me know where and I need to be and what I need to do on time.
4)I'm addicted to my phone. It usually never leaves my side. I'm always playing with it, looking at it, or on facebook on it (see the addiction?)
5)I'm addicted to food. That really isn't a good one, but i mean who isn't? I always need to be eating something one way or another it seems like. Ugh I need to kick that.

How about your addictions?

Day 38: Relationships

They can be tough. They can be easy.

Whether it is a best friend or your boyfriend/girlfriend there is always something hard about it.

I recently just ended my 2 in half year relationship. I felt like I had to do it so I could get my life on track. I know alot of people didn't understand where I was coming from, but I guess I'm the only one that will know.

I feel sometimes you have to be on your own for a while to figure everything out. I have a huge life a head of me and being tied down is not what I'm willing to do right now. I need to do things for me for once.

Even with best friends. There are times that a best friend can get in the way of your life too. I have had friends that have tied me down and stressed me out and I had to deal with it and maybe step back and let my self go for a change.

I wonder if everyone has this problem. I'm glad I had the realization that I needed to think for myself this time.

What were my teachers thinking when assigning homework that is due right after spring break?

Who else has as much homework as I do?

Day 36: Last Night Of Spring Break

Surprisingly enough I didn't talk about my Spring Break at all in my blog....

That may be because I didn't do anything.

I decided to stay in Tempe for Spring Break and the only other person that was here was one of my best friends Brandalyn.

Since no one was here we had to make our own fun!

So of course we went clubbing a couple of times and tanned practically all week. We also went to the mall and rode bikes around campus. Went to see She's Out of My League, which was really funny. Then obviously slept when we NEEDED too lol.

It was actually a really relaxing fun spring break....I'm just ready for all my friends to be back, but I'm not ready for the next two months of school!

How was your spring break??

Day 35: The Dating World

I feel like the dating world has totally changed from when my parents were younger, and even when my grandparents were younger.

In today's society there are alot of group dates instead of single dating.

No one asks people out on a date anymore. People are always going in groups.

Has anyone ever noticed that. It feels like now a days alot of girls have to sometimes make the first move to let a guy know that they are into them. Guys expect that now, but in reality EVERY girl wants the guy to make the first move like old times.

Step it up boyss!!

Day 34: Round 2 for Sophomore Year

I now officially am a renter of an appartment for next year...

Thank god it is on campus so it is close to everything and I can use financial aid to pay for it :]

I also have finished my FAFSA so I can get money to still attend college!!

I also found out that I could possibly have a job this Fall working as a success coach...

Things are really looking good for me.

Day 33: Stereotypes and Labels

I know earlier in my blog I had touched on stereotypes in the racism post...

But I don't feel like I touched on it enough...

Everyday people are put down by a name. Just one name does it.

I have always wondered why, when a girl sleeps with a guy after knowing him for one night or two weeks she is IMMEDIATELY dubbed a whore or being too easy, but then guy in the situation is now considered a "god" for "bagging" this girl....

Sticky situation huh? Well trust me boys, you have nicknames too in girl world.

It just doesn't make any sense.

Or how about when you see someone walking around wearing black everyday and you call them Gothic? They aren't Gothic, black is just their favorite color. Or because some guy dresses really nice people may think immediately that he is gay.

Well in the end those people that stereotype like that will end up seeing those people's true colors. That person wearing all black may end up being a great artist or business person. And that guy you thought was gay? He is married to that beautiful blond you could never get with.

Those girls that you think are whores? Well they are pimps in the end too aren't they?

I love how when one girl is a whore, people just assume that all of them will be at some point.

I had a friend who slept with every person that she dated. Yes she dated ALL of them, but in the end was still told she was easy and a skank.

At least she wasn't having one night stands right?

I was recently told that because I ended my relationship that I wanted to go around whoring myself and sleeping with various guys to have fun. Well there are plenty of other ways to have fun then just "sleeping with guys". Just because you may have seen a bunch of girls doing that doesn't mean they all will.

All I can say is that jealousy and immaturity plays a big part is this portion of our society especially in my generation.

I just wish people would put this behind them and realize that labels and stereotypes get you no where. Everyone is different in their own way. No one knows someone as well as they think they do. So think the next time you want to say something about someone you barely know.

Day 32: Music of the Decades...

I was listening to INXS today with my friend and was just wondering what it was like in the 80's to dance to this music or be dancing to Madonna.

And what about the 70's disco, what is really jivin'?

I look at how different our music is today from all the music of the past, and I sit here and think what are our kids going to think of our music when they get older?

I love old music. I love 80's and 70's. I especially love some 50's music too. It is so unique and it all shaped the music we have today.

So what do you think will be in the next generations to come? What is your favorite musical decade?

Day 30: Tanner and Tanner....

Spring break is every college girls dream to lay out everyday in the gleaming sun and bake their troubles away....

Yes, tanning seems to be an essential to stay "healthy" and beautiful now a days.

I will admit I am an avid tanner myself. I tan very easily and never burn for some reason. That might be the Spanish in me :]

Of course living in Arizona and being a Floridian most of my life it has been so easy for me to just go out and tan. I realize that a lot of people like to fake and bake (which I have done myself only during winter time), to get the real effect of being "glamorous".

I have now been laying out for 3 days straight in the great sun of AZ. It is kinda bad for you I understand, and I do have the problem that I am allergic to sunscreen :/, but I have never had a problem with my skin burning and peeling so I'm not too concerned.

I do see girls that are very very tan and I feel like that is a little unnecessary. I don't want to be that dark, because later I will not age well.

Of course now tanning is a daily thing to some people, ever since Jersey Shore came out I feel a lot of people are sporting the GTL (gym tanning laundry) more then ever!!

So tell me what you think about the whole tanning boom?

Day 29: The Earth is Tilted?

Recently there has been news about the earth being tilted a little bit due to various dangerous earthquakes around the world.

There is really something going on that isn't right. I mean we have a Tsunami a couple years back, then an earthquake in Indonesia, then Haiti and now in Turkey.

I live in one of the dryest places in America and in the past week we had three days of rain. Arizona doesn't have that in March, this usually happens in Aug. and Sept when it is monsoon season.

Also I am originally from Florida and when I was home for christmas break the lowest it got was 29 degrees, I feel like that has NEVER happened.

A couple weeks ago we also had snow in all 50 states at one time, that is very interesting.

Obviously scientist think that this is all due to the earthquakes which will also be making day shorter. I really see something strange going on myself.

So do you think this explains it? or what else could possibly be going on?

Day 28: Teen Pregnancy

For my English class I am writing a paper about teen pregnancy and how the rates are rising.

I feel that this is a big issue in our world today. I have researched and found that some of the causes of this are due to media, poor family life, and peer pressure.

The peer pressure shocks me especially after I watched the movie about the real life pregnancy pact. I don't understand how girls could just think it is "cool" to get pregnant at 15 or 16 years old.

The media has a real big impact too. They try to make things look so glamorous. I mean little 12 year old girls are watching their favorite show Zoey 101 and then see on the news that she is pregnant as 16, what do they think of her then? Also, the show Secret Life of American Teenager, girls will watch that show and they could immediately think, if she can do it, I can do it.

There are also the issue of the poor family life. Some kids grow up around no moral help and are not educated enough on the issue, so to them it just happens. There is also acts of molestation and rape in the homes of some young girls which could lead to being pregnant by their own fathers or pregnant later in the future at a young age because now sex is not a meaningful gift anymore.

There is so much hype about this subject I wish there was something more people would do.

In my hometown there is a school for pregnant girls, which I feel is great because then girls in high school could actual get an education and finish to do what they want. But then again what else could this school be saying?

A lot of people talk about having "abstinence programs" in schools, which I believe won't help either. You are telling teenagers NOT to do something, well most likely that results in they WILL do it. There has always been a trend of that.

I wish I could talk to some of these girls and ask what they were thinking when this all happened. I do realize that some of these are accidents, like if the condom breaks or something like that, but I still feel that girls are not being careful enough.

I was hoping for some people to give me some input on situations they have been through or heard of so that I can input this into my essay....

Thanks

Day 27: Internet is Taking Over

I realized recently that I am on the computer/Internet throughout the day more then I am actually in class.

This semester I have three online classes, then I have a bunch of other websites I am on all day checking and updating for my personal life.

Internet seems toe be the number one boom for our generation today. So many different websites and social networks people are keeping up with.

The rage about Twitter went off like crazy. Now there is a new thing called "Formspring"; it is just a website where you can have a profile and people ask you random questions anonymously and you get to answer. Different, but people are attracted to it.

I remember when I first started my social netoworking. I was probably around 10 or 11. No I didn't have a Myspace, but I did have an AIM account. My name was CBspice114. Ha Ha yes, spice girls :]

Then I did get into Myspace and now I have a Facebook and I'm addicted. My space has seemed to die down compared to Facebook. I never go on my Myspace anymore.

My daily list of websites I check are:

-ESPN.com (that is my homepage)
-Facebook
-MyASU (school e-mail)
-Yahoo (personal e-mail)
-Ebay
-Bank Account
-This Blog
and now
-My Formspring

I'm on these sites 24/7 and that is scary. Everything I feel like will be online. Shopping is now online, people are getting degrees online, and even talking to each other is easier. I mean what happened to letters, going to the actual store, and walking into a classroom to learn?

What are some of the things you spend your "Internet hours" on?

Day 25: Midterms

This week is one of the most dreadful weeks. It's called Midterms.

There are projects and extra credit and huge exams just waiting for you to break down, cry and stress out about.

But isn't there a way to get rid of this stress?

Right after I post this I'm going to go to the gym and get on a bike and read, that is my way of relieving my stress.

I have many other ways too, like taking naps, watching my favorite T.V. show, or listen to music and relax.

What exactly do you do to recover your stressful moments??

Day 24: It's the Inside that Counts

Now a days (according to Facebook) I see plenty of people, going to the gym, trying to eat light or not eat at all, and trying all different types of weird diets so that they can be "beautiful".

What happened to loving who you are?

All those people I said that are going to the gym and eating "light", that age group is around 13-22, a little young of 13 to start thinking about trying to be something they aren't just so people will like them.

I have always had to watch my weight ever since I got into middle school. I wanted to be like all of those skinny girls who got all the boys and wanted people to notice me as well as they noticed them.

Times have changed. Before botox and plastic surgery, people were happy with what they were born with. I remember a few years back when the movie Dream Girls had come out, Beyonce Knowles had to loose a ton of weight for the movie. She did an interview and said that she was upset that she had to loose weight because she loved her curves and her "bootylicious" body. After a gorgeous women like that says that I feel there is really no need to be stick thin.

Honestly, I feel everyone should love themselves for who they are not for what everyone else wants them to be. Don't worry about those people who say that you are "fat" or "ugly" sometimes those people are just jealous.

And for those people who only care about looks.....stop and think about what you are saying to younger generations and maybe look inside yourself instead of a mirror once in a while.

Day 22: Spring Cleaning

YAYYY! not.

Haha, the best feeling you get out of spring cleaning is when it is ALL over.

Being a college student it is very hard to keep everything clean from dust and dirt. It is very frustrating. Especially with two girls living together. I feel like there is something that needs to be cleaned every day.

What is really funny is I tried to start my own little business to start making some money. I came up with a cleaning business for the dorms, but it didn't rocket off like I wanted it to....oh well.

So this week I am going to be cleaning like crazy so that I have a nice room for when spring break comes around. This will include dusting, vacuuming, washing down countertops and mirrors, mopping (hopefully), and maybe washing some rugs and what not.

TIME TO START :]

Day 21: The Facts of Life

Life can be tricky. Life can be a treat. Life can be a bowl of cherries. Life can be a bowl of nails. Life can be whatever you want it to be you just have to make it.

I realize through this time of my life that everyone has to struggle in order to understand and appreciate life in itself.

There are plenty of people I know that always seem to " have it all", and it makes me wonder if those people are every going to have that time of struggle to appreciate what they do have.

I know in the end I will make it. You know why? Because I know I have worked my ass off to get where I wanted to be.

My vision of life....

Live it 'till the end. Don't give up and don't let the people that "have it all" get to you. Don't make other people suffer because you do. Try your hardest and do your best. Everyone has a destiny and I feel people won't know what that destiny was until they have fulfilled every dream they could possibly have.

I will say this though:

Growing up is alot harder to do then I expected....

So for the fall I will be a taking a whole brand new set of classes...

Day 19: Pet Peeves

I know many people have NUMEROUS pet peeves in their life, well I would like to share a few of mine....

1) When people are being loud when you are trying to sleep
2) a messy bedroom
3) when I forget to write something down in my day timer
4) when I don't have a Diet Coke in the morning to wake myself up
5) when I'm late because of something other than myself
6) people who follow people around trying to act like other people

and

7) not having money

What are some of yours?

Day 18: Coming Home

Last night I came home from a little vacation from school, and I realized I have some of the greatest people around me.

First off I got to see my boyfriend of 2 in a half years this week and I had a wonderful time with him.

I also got to see my loving family and I miss them so much, but I'm glad I got to visit with them.

Then I came back to a CAR FULL of people to pick me up at the aiport, I love my friends :]

I had to take a few trips to get to them, one in Missouri, one in Florida and then back to the beautiful state of Arizona.

So this is mainly about knowing I have people in all the right places that love and care for me and that I love and care for too!!

Where are all your loved ones that you miss so dearly? Either if you are away from your hometown due to moving your family or you are a college kid clear across the country :]

Day 17: Video Games

The millennium seems to be the era of video games. From when the new PS2 came out to the brand new Wii console everyone goes ballistic.

Right now the newest thing is the Wii and Xbox live. I feel like almost every college dorm has one. On their free time, my friends across the hall battle each other in either NHL or the new COD (that is Call of Duty for those who aren't video game "savvy"). My other friend also has a Wii in her room, and I seem to always catch myself racing my friends in Mario Kart every now and then.

When I was younger I never had a game system. My dad did not want his children sitting inside and just playing video games all day, and he said that when he only had two daughters at the time. A lot changed after my brother was born.

Finally 2 Christmases ago we got a Wii. My mom gave in because she wanted it too. If you play it right it is sort of exercise ha ha. I love the games on it though, my favorite is Guitar Hero. I'm only able to do medium but I will hopefully get better once I get my own Wii some day.

I have always wanted to "learn" how to play on Xbox or PS3 but I do not have good coordination with my hands with those controllers. What is really funny is the Xbox live. You see boys get so intense talking smack on their headsets to some 9 or 10 year old, but let me tell you those little boys talk right back. It is hilarious.

I really can't wait to see what they come out with next.....

So what is your favorite video game?

Day 16: Legalization

A very big controversy in America today is whether or not Marajuana should be legal.

Well here is my theory...

First off, I feel that if it was legalized then crime rates would possibly go down. No more killings, nor more sneaking around, and no more thefts.

Second, the government could tax marajuana like crazy and even make a tax for people to grow it in their own homes. I mean they give it to people in hospitals with sicknesses anyways right?

Third, what does it hurt? Have you ever heard of anyone getting hurt from smoking weed? I don't think I have, maybe if they mix it with other drugs but you don't see alot of that either. Being in college I have been exposed to a bunch of different things and I do believe I have never seen anyone hurt by marajuana. Yet again it is obviously not painful if they are prescribing it in hospitals.

So what do you think about this? What experiences have you seen with marajuana?

Day 15: It's Movie Time

One of my favorite things to do is sit back, relax and watch a movie. I love snuggling under a blanket on my couch so I can enjoy some quality film.

I also love going to the movies because I love seeing them on the big screen.

I have seen my fair share of movies in the past couple of years, and by far my favorite has been the Hangover. Everyone seems to love that movie. People are always quoting funny lines from it and acting out what happens.

I am also very fond of Broadway Musicals and I love when they turn them into movies because I like to see what movie stars they put in certain parts.

Right now I have also gotten into the Twilight series (I know I always told myself I would never do it. Well I fell in). I really enjoy it because I can't wait to see how the whole book is portrayed in the movies.

So what is your favorite movie??

Day 14: Hobbies

You know how everyone has there own hobby that they tend to latch on to for their whole life?

Well mine happens to be scrapbooking. I seem to be a little obsessed. If you walked into my dorm room right now you would totally understand. I am a very crafty person so when the oppurtunity presents itself I use my creative mind to do almost anything.

My mom kind of got me started with this hobby considering she has been scrapbooking since was about 6 or 7 years old. She still does it today. While I was still in high school I worked at a scrapbook store and so she did, she kind of go tme the job.

My first album I really ever made was my senior year album (it's bad because it is still not done :/ ) but I love it because now I have those memories kept away creatively :].

One of the reasons why I love it scrapbooking so much is because of all the different products. The paper, embellishments, the tools, there is almost everything you can imagine and more. There are many BIG companies that come out with some great stuff. Gorgeous colors and designs that seem to catch the eye of everyone.

My favorite companies are Sassafras Lass and Studio Calico. (only scrapbookers would really know what that means).

So what is your hobby and your favorite things about them?

Everyone seems to be getting hyped up about this years winter Olympics. I don't ever remember everyone being so excited in the past, maybe I wasn't paying really good attention.

This year a lot of people seem to be really into the curling. Ha ha I think it is just like shuffleboard on ice! A lot of people don't understand what they are doing but I'm pretty sure that's it.

My favorite to watch is the skiing, mainly because they sometimes wipe out right in the beginning, but other wise it is really intense.

I also love hockey, but I haven't been able to watch it because it always seems to be on really late. I do know that the U.S. mens team is doing really well though.

So what has been your favorite winter Olympic sport this year?

Day 11: Dream Schools

People always ask me " you are from Florida, why are you all the way out in Arizona?" Well I should say because this is where I want to pursue my dream.

Every since my Junior year of high school I wanted to be a Journalist. I had a teacher that really inspired me to pursue that goal. She would tell me all about the different types of Journalism that I didn't even know were Journalism. At first I really wanted to be a Photojournalist, than later on I realized I wanted to be a broadcastor specifically in sports. I love sports and just to be on the TV reporting about it would be amazing.

My teacher had told me of some of the best schools in the country for Journalism. Those included: Indiana University, Mizzou, and Arizona State.

I looked into all three and realized that ASU would be the best for me.

My father grew up right around the corner from ASU and alot of my family lives close by. I felt like I was more familiar with the area then I would have been with Mizzou or IU.

Their school is called the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism. I just started there this semester and I love it. People have told me how lucky I am to be in that school and I do feel like I am very fortunate.

In the furute I might think about going to IU or Mizzou for Grad school. So I definately plan on going far with my education.

I feel so blessed to be where I am today. I thank my parents and my educators for pushing me to become what I want to be in life. I am so proud of myself to be able to pursue the goals I want to pursue.

So I got to my dream school.

What is your dream school and why do you want to go there?

Day 10: Homelessness in America

Today I was watching a video for sociology about homeless teens. It seems to be a really big issue in our time today. I didn't know there about 2 million homeless people in America. I feel like there isn't alot being done for these people.

They are provided homeless shelters sometimes, but most of them are gender-specific or age specific so then they are split up from their families. Of course living on the streets is no bundle of joy for teens either. They go through numerous amounts of emotional sufferage along with other pain.

In the video various homeless teens talked about how people look down on them because they are homeless. They gave responses like "not every homeless person does drugs" or "because I have no money people don't want to hang out with me anymore." I don't understand what would be wrong. These people need help from our world today, and I don't think there is enough of it out there.

The reason why these teens become homeless is because they are either escaping poverty or abuse, emotional neglect, or may be to old for foster care. By the time you are 18 you are considered to old for foster care. I know plenty of people who just turn 18 the beginning of their senior year in high school. I feel that that rule should be lengthened to the age of 19, or possibly till they graduate from high school giving them a chance to get an education in college.

I truely believe their should be more done on this issue. What do you think might be a great way to help these people?

Day 9: Let's Go Back

Let's take it back a little bit,

If you are a 90's kid you will have an understanding for this reminiscing I'm about to do.

Remember those shows we always used to watch, and it wasn't the typical "saturday morning" because who would want to get up for that. It was those days where we said we were sick and couldn't go to school and we would just lay around on the couch eating DUNKAROOS! and watching Rugrats or Rocko's Modern Life.

The other day my friends and I took a night to go back in time and talk about all the things we miss. For instance, we had an arguement about whether or not their used to be a "red plastic stick" that would spread the sauce on a pizza lunchable while I was devouring a pizza lunchable at the time. We found out that they did used to have them and they discontinued them after finding out that everyone really just threw them away. After the arguement we kind of talked about other foods we missed and what came first, like Fruit Roll Ups or Fruit By the Foot. Also what the difference was.

I always think about how life would be different growing up in this new generation, the millenium, just like my brother is. I feel that we grew up totally naive to certain things and now kids these days know a little too much...way more than I ever knew at that age.

All that aside I miss the old days. I miss playing Skip It in my front yard. I miss eating Rice Crispies and Bananas almost every morning, with extra sugar on top. Also always wondering what was in a Wonderball and drinking Yoohoo. I loved playing with my Furbee that now would freak me out probably. I always made sure I took care of my Giga Pet and remembered NOT to bring my Pokemon Cards to school because they wouldn't get confiscated. I loved growing up in the generation I did. It was so much fun.

So now it's your turn:

What was your favorite thing when you were growing up?

and you don't have to be from the 90's to answer this question :]

Day:7 Discrimination, Racist and Prejudice

The subject in sociology this week is discrimination and social inequality.

I feel now a days this isn't such a strong subject like it used to be back in the 50's and 60's, but I will say that we still have our problems.

In sociology we have to post a question and answer about the material we are studying.

I really wanted to talk about racism because I think it is a huge social issue in our society.

Back in 8th grade my US history teacher said to me "I think everyone is racist in their own mind". He didn't mean it in a bad way, he was just saying that everyone judges people, and I completely agree. In the material we are studying they talked about stereotypes and how they can easily hurt someone.

When I was going into high school we had an assignment in my Personal Health class about stereotypes. This was a summer class so different kids from different highschools were in it. I had gone to a "gifted" school for my first year of high school. It was amazing what people thought of the people that went to that school. We were called "goody too shoes" or "teachers pet" and "book worms", when we were nothing like that. Of course you then looked at the other high schools in the county and you had "potheads", "jocks", and the "popular" crowd.

I ended up in one of the other high schools from 10th to 12th grade. I loved it there.
We had a unity day, which is where we took a day from school and a bunch of kids were picked of all races and all ages, and put in a room. We talked about issues and what bothers us about what people say sometimes. It was amazing how close I felt with those people after one day.

I am not the racist type, never have and never will. I just wish people would get over the facts of life sometimes. We are all different in a unique way. Whether our eyes are a different color or our skin is a different color we are all different.

So today:

What have been your experiences with racism and discrimination? What have been some stereotypes you have been associated with? What do you think can help everyone in this nation to come together as one instead of always turning a shoulder on someone of color, race, or ethnicity?

Day 6: Money Money Money MONEYYYY!

ok the title is a bit of a joke, have you ever watched Apprentice? Well that's the lyrics to the song on all of the season finale's when the person wins. Love it.

Well we all know that this economy is in a bit of a crisis. People losing jobs and homes. Wealthy people are starting to lose money to . There really needs to be soemthing done.

Right now my family is hurting big time and it is so hard with them having a child in college.

Luckily the government still gives out grants and loans so that I can get my education right away. I have started filling out my FAFSA and trying to find scholarships to put me through the next 3 in a half years to graduate on time. It is hard because now with this recession there is so much competition among students and "giving away money" isn't that easy anymore.

I've been trying to find others way to help me get through this rough time. Finding a job is probably the hardest thing to do especially in a college town. All of my friends don't even have jobs and that is enough competition right there.
Also finding the TIME to actually have a job that wants you. Being a full time student is a job in itself, along with being involved with school you have so much on your plate.

Don't forget spending money for food, clothes, and the occasional night out.

It's really rough out there....

So today's question:

What are some idea's for making money for college? What have you come up with in the past to start saving for college? Also, share some thoughts and ideas on what you might be going through and how many sacrafices you have had to make since this economic down grade.

Day 5: Summer Jobs

Today I received an e-mail from a summer camp letting me know I have an interview with them for a counseling job this summer. I am so excited because as a child I have always wanted to go away to camp and never got the chance, but now I have the chance to be a councelor at one!!

This job will give me the oppurtunity to share my interests and life with various young age groups. I love kids and so I feel like I will really enjoy myself with this job.

I will not be able to see my family until July if I get this job, but that is o.k. because I think they understand that this is a huge oppurtunity and it is totally worth it.

In the past I have had a summer camp job. It wasn't a sleep away camp but I ran a scrapbook camp two different weeks in the summer. I loved it because I got to be creative with my own mind and then help young girls be creative with theirs.

So today's question:

What is your ideal summer job? What summer jobs have you had in the past and what has been your best experience with it?

I have been really good at time management since I've been in college, I just wish there was more time to do EVERYTHING I want to do.

I have a daytimer where I keep everything I have to do. From homework to all my scheduled appointments. It really helps me keep track of my life and what needs to get done.

So today's question:

What are some things you do to help you keep track of your schedule? What advice would you give to people who need help with time management?

Day 3: Picking Up A Special Someone

Today one of my best friends girlfriend comes in to visit the beautiful valley.

My whole floor has been excited this past week to meet her, we all feel like we are meeting someone famous!

Right now we are sitting at the airport awaiting her arrival into Sky Harbor International. My friend is ecstatic and she is glowing with excitement!!

I'm so happy for her, for her this is a little late V-day present :]

All morning we have been talking about how exciting it is to go to the airport either if you are going somewhere or picking someone up.

It is so funny because we always make a little day trip by going to airport. We hop on the lightrail and plan lunch at the airport while we wait to pick our friends up. I feel like I have been to Sky Harbor Airport more in college then I have been to my home airport in my entire life!!

One of my favorite airport experiences was when I went to California. That was a once in a lifetime event. It was my whole family including my friend Halee and my sister's friend Haleigh. Well, we flew out of Tampa and on our way one of the generators went out while in the air. We have to emergency land in New Orleans and had to wait about 2-3 hours for the next flight to LAX. It didn't help that Halee and I had been up all night in excitement and were exhausted the whole way there. So we finally get on a plane to LAX and we had missed out connecting flight from L.A. to San Diego. We had to get an airport shuttle all the way to San Diego. It was right during rush hour too. So it took us about 4-5 hours to get down to San Diego. Oh and on top of that, we couldn't find our luggage. The luggage ended up being at the San Diego airport waiting for us to pick up haha. After all that we still had a blast on the trip!!

So today's question:

What is your best/worst airport experience? You can talk about picking someone up or about a flight you had!!

Day 2: Happy Valentines Day

I'm glad and upset at the same time that it is Valentines Day.

I'm in a relationship, but my boyfriend lives in MO. It is kinda dissapointing :/

BUT all my friends (single and ones in long distance relationships) have decided to go to Hooters for dinner tonight, so that will make up for all of this.

I have been noticing on my facebook that EVERYONE seems to think V-day is overrated.

Personally I think it has been very corny to some extent. It should just be a day spend with the one you love or even a best friend. A Valentine can really be anyone, just ask a friend (or even a foe and make a truce :] )

So today's question is:

What is your opinion on V-day? Should people really shun it out if they don't have someone for it?

Also, add in what you are doing for Valentines day....Maybe some of us will get some ideas for next year!!

Day 1: The Beginning

So i finally got the inspirations to start a Blog, well here I am. I'm not necessarily a "blogger" but I am an avid Facebooker so I think I will be ok at this.

My name is Chelsea Bolyard and I am a student at Arizona State University. I am majoring in Broadcast Journalism. I am 19 years old and enjoy sports and music. I am originally from Florida and came to ASU just because of their journalism school. I also work for the ASU wrestling team as a student manager. I am a freshman here and I have been loving every minute of it.

Recently I watched a video for one of my classes that was about my generations and their views on our society. It really got me interested in what my peers think and so that is what this is all about.

Over the course of the next year I plan to post once a day on various subjects that inspire my gernation today. Social views, favorite things in life, and a typical day of a college student are all subjects that will be discussed and more. This blog will be totally interactional so everyone feel free to comment, ask questions, and post insight on what you think.

I know I said this was geared towards my generation, but older generations don't hesitate to say what you feel. We do like to know what you are thinking too (whether we say we do or not).

Hopefully everyone will do a daily check up :]

So, today my first topic will be....Blogs haha

Go ahead and leave tips and insight on a blog you may have and what motivates you to keep it going. This can be about a blog like this one, a facebook, or even a personal written journal (you know that ones people used to have when there were no computers ;] )

Thanks guys!!!
